Priest-in-Charge Search

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in St. Peter’s. We currently seek an individual to serve as priest-in-charge, and hopefully, as our future rector.

St. Peter’s has established itself in the Chattanooga community-at-large through its many ministries and outreach opportunities. Perhaps what sets St. Peter’s apart is its Pre-K through Grade 5 school that currently supports 234 students. The school serves as one of St. Peter’s primary ministries. Our Priest has regularly conducted two (2) weekly chapel services for students and faculty. For more information regarding St. Peter’s Episcopal School, you may visit saintpetersschool.net.

St. Peter’s supports its healthy, engaged intergenerational congregation with many formation and fellowship activities for children, youth and adults. We have two Sunday morning services that are distinct in their style and tone. The 7:30 service is a contemplative Rite I service. The 10:30 service is more traditional and includes a professional choir director that leads a choir of 12 to 15 members. Adults and youth are encouraged to participate in all facets of the service in both settings.

St. Peter’s fosters various worship ministries, such as altar guild, flower guild and lay eucharistic and visiting ministers and preachers. Further, St. Peter’s has a history of supporting those who seek ordination. For more information on these topics, please see the “Worship” and “Christian Formation” tab.

Members of St. Peter’s are open and welcoming to not only those who visit, attend and are active in the church, but also to various community groups that utilize our facilities. In addition to St. Peter’s school, groups such as the Boy Scouts, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous use St. Peter’s facilities regularly each week.

St. Peter’s also serves the Chattanooga community through a wide variety of outreach ministries. St. Peter’s supports organizations such as Hosanna House, Metropolitan Ministries, the Chatt Foundation (food bank), Welcome Home, and Neighborhood Needs, among several others. For further information on St. Peter’s support of these organizations, please see the “Community Outreach” page under the “Christian Formation” tab.

St. Peter’s is an amazing place, and we hope to find a leader that will steward the many great ministries we already have and who will foster the growth we envision in the future.

Expressions of interest, along with a resume, updated OTM profile, and links to at least two sermons, should be sent to Canon Jerry Askew at jaskew@dioet.org.
